Overview
Live Video Door Controls allows customers to connect Access Control doors and Z-Wave locks to nearby cameras, providing real-time visibility of entry points and enabling remote buzzing, locking, or unlocking all from a single interface. Live Video Door Controls showcases the powerful capabilities of the Alarm.com for Business unified platform, seamlessly combining video surveillance and Access Control to streamline security management.

Procedure
Features
Seamless integration of Access Control and Video
Observe activity at entry points while remotely granting access
Mitigate any door tailgating
How it works
When a door is locked, the customer will have the options to do the following
Unlock: Unlocking disengages the lock, allowing continuous access until it is locked again.
Buzz Open: Buzzing a door open is a brief, remote action where the lock disengages momentarily (i.e., 5 seconds by default), allowing a person to open it immediately. After a few seconds, the lock automatically re-engages, restoring security.
When a door is unlocked, the customer will have the option to do the following
Lock: The customer can lock the door. When this happens, its mechanism engages, keeping it closed and inaccessible without a key, keycard, or authorized electronic access.
Note: Z-Wave locks do not buzz open and can only lock/unlock. Access Control Doors can lock/unlock or buzz open.
Access Live Video Door Controls
Live Video Door Controls can be accessed using the Alarm.com app and GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com).
Important: Before Live Video Door Controls can be accessed, a continuously recording video device must be associated with a lock or Access Control door. For more information, see Associate a security device to a continuously recording camera.

Procedure
If live video appears dark
- Verify that the camera lens is free of dust and smudges.
- Verify the display is not causing the darkness; try live video on another device.
Adjust the Video Device Image settings. For information about what settings can be adjusted, see Change a camera's brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, exposure, or night vision sensitivity.
If changing the Video Device Image settings washes out the image, try changing the positioning or angle of the camera so exposure is more desirable.
Example: If the camera is placed in a dark room facing outside, bright sunlight may cause the camera to adjust its exposure to dark areas and, as a result, render the image too dark. Attempt to include more of the dark area in the view to lessen exposure-related issues.
Note: When HDR is enabled on compatible cameras, the exposure setting is set to Automatic and cannot be manually changed. The VDB755P and VDB750 will always be Automatic as HDR cannot be turned off for those models.

If the live video being streamed is solid blue, the camera is likely in privacy mode or, if you are using an Alarm.com Video Server plus an analog camera, the Video Server lost its connection to the analog camera.
| Platform | General / Device |
|---|---|
| Content type | Troubleshooting |
| Source last updated | 2026-02-04 |
Procedure
Supported devices
The following Alarm.com cameras support privacy mode
ADC-V510
ADC-V520
ADC-V520IR
ADC-V610PT
ADC-V620PT
The following Alarm.com Video Servers may display a solid blue stream if they lose connection to their analog camera
ADC-VS1
ADC-VS120
ADC-VS121
ADC-VS420
For supported Alarm.com IP video cameras
If the live video is blue, but you can see a timestamp in the upper left corner, the camera is in privacy mode. The LED on the camera should be solid blue to indicate it is in privacy mode.
[Blue Screen]
To take Alarm.com IP cameras out of privacy mode
- Press and hold the WPS button on the camera for only 1 second. The camera LED should then return to solid green.
If the LED begins to flash blue, you may have held the button down for too long. Wait 2 minutes for this to time out, then press the button again 1 second to disable privacy mode.
For analog cameras connected to an Alarm.com Video Server
An Alarm.com Video Server is a small device that connects to your router. The video server takes a camera's analog signal and translates it into a digital signal that Alarm.com can show on your account. When the video server is not receiving input from the analog camera, or the input type is incompatible with the video server, it will appear blue on the screen.
- Verify that the analog camera has power and the BNC cable is not damaged. This can be tested by plugging the BNC cable into a monitor, a pre-existing DVR setup, or a different (working) camera.
If you are having trouble with the testing process or need help replacing the cable, contact your service provider. For more information about how to find your service provider's contact information, see Contact your service provider.

What is the frame rate for video?
GoSafer Security Knowledge Base
This operational reference is organized for GoSafer Security customers and staff. Alarm.com product names are retained where required for technical accuracy.
Overview
The video frame rate determines how smooth the playback appears. The higher the number, the smoother the video. Live video and saved video frame rates can differ between each other.
| Platform | App + Web |
|---|---|
| Content type | FAQ / Explanation |
| Source last updated | 2025-12-08 |
Procedure
Live video frame rate
Alarm.com video devices stream live video with the highest frame rate the network and video device permit.
On a local area network (LAN), the maximum FPS may be achieved but can be lower if the available bandwidth is too low, shared by multiple cameras, or shared by multiple simultaneous viewers. Reducing resolution or image quality may increase the FPS when viewing live video from remote connections.
Adjust live video image quality and resolution
- Select whether you are changing a camera's live video image quality using the Alarm.com app or GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com).
Alarm.com app
- Log in to the Alarm.com app.
- Tap [Doorbell Video Call] or [Video].
- Tap [Settings].
In Video Devices, tap to select the desired camera.
In Settings, tap Video.
In Live Video Resolution, tap the desired live video image quality.
Note: Only some video devices' settings can be changed using the Alarm.com app. If the resolution options are not available for the camera, use the GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com) to change them.

Saved video frame rate
Users can choose the target frame rate for saved video. The available frame rates can range from 1 FPS to 30 FPS depending on the video device. A Stream Video Recorder (SVR) or Onboard Recording rule can match the chosen frame rate of each individual video device. The maximum frame rate an SVR or Onboard Recording rule can match is 30 FPS.
Note: Internet speeds, browser performance, and/or bandwidth can affect the quality of the image when viewing from the Alarm.com app or GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com). For best results or to see true image quality, it is suggested to download the clip.

How air temperature affects motion detection
Due to the nature of infrared motion sensors, it is common to see a change in sensitivity in triggered clips during different parts of the year. This variability is due to the difference in temperature between the person/vehicle being detected and the ambient air.
During warm months, clips tend to trigger less often.
During cold months, clips tend to trigger more often.
To counteract these changes, increase or decrease the doorbell camera's motion sensitivity as needed. Another option for a device that records too many clips is to angle it away from high-traffic areas.

How do I silence the chime outside of my recording rules?
You can silence the chime by setting the default tone volume to zero. For the steps to set a chime's default tone volume to zero, see Adjust the chime sound and volume.
Can a doorbell have multiple rules?
Yes. A single doorbell can have multiple rules at a time.
Can a single rule apply to multiple doorbells?
Yes. You can apply a rule to multiple doorbells at a time.
Can I create rules on multiple chimes?
Yes, you can select multiple chimes of the same model to ring for a single doorbell button press rule.
Example: Multiple W115Cs can be selected to ring for a single rule, but it is not possible to have a W115C and a different type of chime on the same rule.
When creating a new rule using the New Rules Builder, users can select multiple chimes. However, after saving and completing the unified flow, the devices will be separated, and a unique rule will be generated for each chime model selected. To view the rules saved for each chime device, visit the Device Settings.

Create temperature notifications for video devices
GoSafer Security Knowledge Base
This operational reference is organized for GoSafer Security customers and staff. Alarm.com product names are retained where required for technical accuracy.
Overview
You can receive notifications when an Alarm.com Wireless Video Doorbell's internal temperature nears the bounds of the operational temperature range.

Video Device
Operational temperature range
ADC-VDB780B
3°F to 131°F (-16°C to 55°C)
ADC-V731B
-4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C)
Temperature notifications
Users will receive a low-temperature notification when the internal temperature of the device drops below its minimum threshold, and a high-temperature notification when the temperature exceeds the maximum threshold.
If the video device's internal temperature exceeds the minimum or maximum temperature, it will automatically turn off to prevent damage to the device. The device will automatically turn back on after its internal temperature is within the operational temperature range.
Note: This notification is enabled by default.
Cold weather performance
Low temperatures are known to reduce the capacity of lithium-ion batteries, so users in colder climates may experience shorter battery cycles. If there is a quick drop in ambient temperature the battery will deplete faster, and the device may not accurately reflect the remaining capacity. In sustained colder climates it is recommended to recharge the device more frequently.
Note: In the case of a low-temperature cutoff, it will take time for the video device's internal temperature to reach the functioning supported temperature.
For information about LED behavior during high and low temperatures, see

Troubleshooting
The Alarm.com Chime is not ringing when the doorbell camera button is pressed
- Disable and re-enable Send button press notifications to Alarm.com Chime.
- Power down the Alarm.com Chime.
- Verify the correct chime type is selected on the customer account.
For more information, see Adjust the chime type.
Disconnect power from the router and any applicable access points, and wait 2 minutes.
Reconnect power to each device starting with the router and ending with the Alarm.com Chime.
For multiple Alarm.com Chimes, verify the following router settings
If the customer's setup includes multiple Alarm.com Chimes, or the doorbell is being connected to the customer's home network instead of a W115C, additional router settings may need to be adjusted. For more information about and help with changing router settings, refer to the router manual, router manufacturer, or customer's Internet Service Provider.
Multicast broadcasts are enabled on the Wi-Fi router.
- Log in to the router and verify that Multicast Packet Forwarding is enabled.
If Multicast Packet Filtering is disabled, enable it.
If the router does not have a Multicast Packet forwarding/filtering option, then multicast broadcasts may not be an option on the router. Check with the Internet Service Provider or in the router's user manual to verify if the option is available. If a router does not support multicast broadcasts, it should be replaced with one that does support multicast broadcasts.
- Verify that Wi-Fi Client Isolation is disabled. For some routers/access points, it is enabled by default.
Wi-Fi Client Isolation may also be called Client Isolation or some variation of this.

How can a camera be reconnected to a Wi-Fi network if the router, network equipment, or wireless settings change?
GoSafer Security Knowledge Base
This operational reference is organized for GoSafer Security customers and staff. Alarm.com product names are retained where required for technical accuracy.
Overview
When your wireless settings or networking equipment change, the Wi-Fi cameras connected to the old network will disconnect from the internet. This is because they are still programmed with the old Wi-Fi information. Once the cameras have the new Wi-Fi information, they can reconnect. Note: If your cameras are connected to an Alarm.com Smart Gateway, they will stay connected even if your network changes.

Procedure
To reconnect a camera using WPS mode
Use your router's WPS button to quickly reconnect your cameras to the network. WPS functions as a way for the router to share its Wi-Fi credentials with another device without the user having to enter the credentials. Both the router and the camera need to be in WPS mode at the same time for the camera to connect successfully.
Important: Some routers do not have WPS. If your router does not have a WPS button, or if the button is disabled (i.e., if the LED for the WPS button blinks red or does not light up when you press it), try using Access Point (AP) mode or Ethernet instead. For more details about whether WPS is available on your router, refer to the manufacturer's user manual.
- Press and hold the WPS button on your router until the LED starts flashing. Typically this button is labeled with the letters WPS, two arrows forming a circle, or a lock icon.
While the router's WPS button is flashing, press and hold the WPS/Reset button on the camera for 3 seconds. Release the button as soon as the LED starts flashing blue.
Caution: Holding the WPS/Reset button too long (i.e., over 7 seconds), could result in the camera resetting to its factory default settings. The camera's LED will flash red and green to indicate it is resetting, after which the camera must be removed and re-enrolled on the account.
- Wait for the LED on the camera to turn solid green. This can take up to 5 minutes, and the camera might go through a few different LED patterns.
Once the camera's LED is solid green, verify you can see live video on the GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com) or Alarm.com app. If the LED does not turn solid green, see LED troubleshooting.
To reconnect a camera using AP mode
Use a Wi-Fi enabled device (i.e., a smartphone, tablet, or computer) to connect your cameras to the network. Access Point (AP) mode functions by letting you connect to the camera directly and make changes to its Wi-Fi settings without the camera being connected to the internet.
- Press and hold the WPS/Reset button on the camera for 5 seconds. Release the button as soon as the LED starts flashing white. The camera is now broadcasting its own Wi-Fi network.
Caution: Holding the WPS/Reset button too long (i.e., over 7 seconds), could result in the camera resetting to its factory default settings. The camera's LED will flash red and green to indicate it is resetting, after which the camera must be removed and re-enrolled on the account.
Using a computer, smartphone, or tablet, connect to the Wi-Fi network name that starts with either ALARM or the device name, followed by (XX:XX:XX). The numbers in parentheses are the last six digits of the video device’s MAC address.
Example: The network name for an ADC-V723/723X could read ALARM (XX:XX:XX) or ADC-V723/723X (XX:XX:XX).
- Open a web browser on the device and enter the camera's Access Point web address (e.g., http://v723install, http://522irinstall, etc.) or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Click Scan for wireless networks.
- Click to select your Wi-Fi network.
In Security Key, enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Click Save.
- Click Ok in the pop-up window that appears asking to refer to the website.
Once the camera's LED is solid green, verify you can see live video on the GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com) or Alarm.com app. If the LED does not turn solid green, see LED troubleshooting.
To reconnect a camera using Ethernet
Use an Ethernet (i.e., Cat5) cable to connect your camera directly to the router, then reprogram the camera's wireless settings using the GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com).
Note: Some cameras do not have an Ethernet port. If that is the case, try using WPS or AP to connect the cameras.
- Remove power from your camera.
Attach one end of an Ethernet cable to the camera and the other end to your router.
- Power on your camera.
- Wait for the camera's status LED to turn solid green. This can take up to 5 minutes.
Configure your camera's Wi-Fi settings. For more information about configuring your camera's Wi-Fi settings using the GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com), see Change a video device's wireless network settings.
- Remove the Ethernet cable and power cycle (i.e., remove power and then reapply it) your camera.
Once the camera's LED is solid green, verify you can see live video on the GoSafer Security customer portal (powered by Alarm.com) or Alarm.com app. If the LED does not turn solid green, see LED troubleshooting.

How much network bandwidth do Alarm.com video devices use?
GoSafer Security Knowledge Base
This operational reference is organized for GoSafer Security customers and staff. Alarm.com product names are retained where required for technical accuracy.
Overview
For the latest video devices, the minimum requirement is 2 Mbps of upload speed per video device for consistent performance at reduced quality. To test the network and determine how many video devices your internet connection can support, see Perform an Internet speed test.

Procedure
When a video device uses bandwidth
Alarm.com video devices do not consume any bandwidth unless they are uploading recorded video clips or someone is actively looking at live video or SVR recorded footage.
Even when in use, the video device cannot consume all available bandwidth because routers allocate bandwidth fairly among all the devices that are on the network (e.g., computers, tablets, etc.).
Devices/features requiring additional bandwidth include
HD video streaming
Two-Way Audio for cameras
Stream Video Recorder integration
Doorbell cameras
Important: The SkyBell Doorbell Camera requires at least 2 Mbps of upload speed per device. For more information about the network requirements for the SkyBell Doorbell Camera, see What are the network requirements of the SkyBell Doorbell Cameras?.
The Alarm.com Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB770) and Wireless Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB780B) require at least 2.5 Mbps of upload speed per device.

How should I configure Video Motion Detection (VMD) settings for a video device?
GoSafer Security Knowledge Base
This operational reference is organized for GoSafer Security customers and staff. Alarm.com product names are retained where required for technical accuracy.
Overview
Video Motion Detection (VMD) works by looking for motion in specific areas (i.e., windows) of the camera's view. You can customize the size, location, sensitivity, and target size of the VMD windows to reduce false positive or missed motion. For more information about adjusting Video Motion Detection settings, see Change a camera's Video Motion Detection settings.

Procedure
Video Motion Detection tutorial video
Window locations and sizes
A video device's VMD windows work best if you think of them like tripwires. Create longer and narrower boxes in areas that must be passed through to reach the area of interest. Keep in mind that it is recommended to avoid placing VMD windows in highly dynamic areas (e.g., large reflective surfaces, large areas where shadows come and go, or trees and bushes that move due to wind).

[Pasted Image At 2017 10 31 04 51 Pm]
Target size
Target size is the percentage of the window that includes movement to trigger a clip recording. If the target size is too large, the camera may not trigger for anything less than an object the size of a car. If the target size is too small, leaves blowing in the wind may trigger recordings. It is recommended to estimate the percentage of a window that a person, or whatever you want to record, would fill and then select one size larger.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity is a measure of how drastic a change is needed to trigger a clip. Higher sensitivity means a smaller change in the video is needed to trigger a clip, but if the sensitivity is too high, the camera may trigger constantly.
Note: For camera models ADC-V521IR, ADC-V522IR, and ADC-V722W, the sensitivity setting affects all Video Motion Detection (VMD) windows for the specific device.
At-Home Settings
The At-Home Setting, when enabled, pauses recording rules when the system is disarmed or a Geo-Device is inside of the Home Geo-Fence. This can help prevent unwanted or unnecessary recording.

The ADC-VDB770 is warm to the touch and has a solid yellow LED
GoSafer Security Knowledge Base
This operational reference is organized for GoSafer Security customers and staff. Alarm.com product names are retained where required for technical accuracy.
Overview
Like most powered consumer electronic devices, the ADC-VDB770 will warm when operated and normally have a higher temperature than the surrounding air (ambient) temperature.
| Platform | General / Device |
|---|---|
| Content type | Troubleshooting |
| Source last updated | 2022-01-26 |
Procedure
Quick reference
The ADC-VDB770 is designed to channel heat away from key components to the backplate. As a result, the backplate may reach higher temperatures than other exterior surfaces.
The ADC-VDB770 is rated to operate in temperatures between -22°F (-30°C) and 104°F (40°C). In regions where temperatures are expected be near or above 104°F, avoid placing in direct sunlight.
If the ADC-VDB770 gets too warm to operate fully, it enters a cool-down mode indicated by a solid yellow LED.
Overview
Like most powered consumer electronic devices, the ADC-VDB770 will warm when operated and normally have a higher temperature than the surrounding air (ambient) temperature. The product is designed to channel heat towards the backplate and away from the button surface and internal components to maximize the conditions under which the button’s surface remains within recommended surface contact guidelines and to maximize the device’s operating range.
If a person holds their finger on the doorbell for a prolonged period of time, it will feel warmer than the air temperature and may feel hot, particularly if the device is installed in direct sunlight. For regular use we recommend touching the doorbell’s button surface for about 1 second to ring the doorbell.
We recommend contacting your service provider before completing work that requires handling the backplate or handling the button surface for longer than 10 seconds, especially if the ambient temperature is greater than room temperature (72°F), or if the unit is mounted in a location where it is facing intense direct sunlight.
Cool-down mode
If your device is exposed to sunlight and the ambient temperature is near the device’s maximum operating temperature (104°F), its automatic cooling algorithms may activate so that the device is not damaged by the hot conditions. In this case, it will enter a Cool-Down mode, indicated by a solid yellow LED, where the indoor chime can normally still be triggered by pressing the button, but all other features (notifications, video recording, video streaming, and Video Analytics features such as Touchless Doorbell) are temporarily disabled.
When the environmental conditions improve and the device has cooled to a normal operating temperature, the device will automatically restore functionality. Please contact your service provider before completing any troubleshooting if your device has entered this state.
